Why ‘Nude on glass’? During my master of photography, I had the idea of working with distortion of the body. Everyone knows the images of a face on the platen of a copier. I think that’s an interesting fact. I then built a steel structure with a glass plate, 90 x 60 cm, just big enough for a whole, collapsed body.
The idea was to experiment with distortion, elegance and sensuality. Is the body still elegant, perhaps even sensual when the natural forms become out of proportion?
The series I made during my master’s program is called “Restrictions May Apply. It is a reference to the beauty image imposed by the (social) media, represented by the steel frame in which the model moves.
The body fascinates me and especially the female body. That’s obvious, being a man, but it’s more than just natural attraction. I find the female body less coarse, rounder and more elegant.
After a lot of experimentation, I have two versions that give a good result; one with water and one with a thin layer of milk. The variant with water creates more depth in the photo. The other type, with milk, makes the image flatter, more two-dimensional.
